Water Source

It is one of the original component of the water system of Bangued constructed way back in 1919. It is the impoundment/enclosure of the spring using stone masonry walls, wiremesh perimeter fence and covered by nylon net to provide protection against intrusion of foreign objects such as debris and falling twigs and leaves and entry of animals and birds. The measured minimum spring yield is 18,000 cu.m. per day. However, only 6,500 cu.m. per day is being used by MBWD and the majority is for irrigation purposes. The elevation of the Spring is 193.7 m. above mean sea level. It is located at Barangay Lusuac, Peñarrubia, Abra, about 8 kms away from Bangued.

Hydrants

Installed at strategic locations at the District’s service coverage to have a source of water during fire accidents. Two (2) units are installed in Peñarrubia, Two (2) units are also installed in Pidigan, Two (2) units are also installed in Tayum and six (6) are installed in Bangued.

Blow-off Valves

They are installed at endpoints of every distribution line and at low portions of transmission lines to release accumulated debris or other foreign objects that entered the piping system

Air Release Valves

Installed at transmission and distribution lines to release trapped air in the pipelines and to increase water discharge at the system.

Pressure Reducing Valves

These are installed at the system’s distribution lines with high water pressure in order to reduce its water pressure and thereby directing water at low pressure areas.

Service Lines

It is made up to 32mm (1″) – 20mm (1/2″) GI and High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipes tapped at Distribution lines to the concessionaires tap-stands/faucets but the responsibility of MBWD is up to the water meter only while the service line after the meter is the concessionaire’s responsibility.

660 cu.m. Reservoir

It is made up of “Fiberglass Reinforced Polyester” (FRP) water tank and supported with a reinforced concrete base which was built in the year 2011. It is also located at Casamata Hill at 25 meters away from the 440 cu.m. – reservoir.

440 cu.m. Reservoir

It is a concrete ground storage facility located atop the Casamata Hill. It is one of the original component of the Water District that was constructed in 1919. It has an overflow elevation of 98.95 meters above mean sea level. Up to now, the said tank is still in good condition.

Chlorinator

Gas chlorine is injected at the collection box from a chlorine cylinder by means of a regulator. It is self-operated in a 24/7 basis. Monitoring of Chlorine availability at the system is conducted daily. Chlorine residual is taken at eight strategic locations usually as the location of concessionaires nearest to the spring source and at end points of the MBWD system. The minimum Chlorine residual in the system is maintained at 0.30 ppm (parts per million).

Intake Box/Chlorination Box

It is located at 30 m. – below the spring. It is made up of Reinforced Concrete Box where chlorine is fed and mixed to the water coming from the source then to be transmitted to concessionaires by means of 3 transmission lines.

Distribution Lines

It is made up of 50mm – 100mm uPVC and GI Pipes tapped at Transmission Lines to serve the municipalities of Peñarrubia, Bangued, Tayum and Pidigan. The approximate total length of the MBWD Distribution Line is 70kms.

Transmission Lines

It is made up of 23.05 kms. Combination of Galvanized Iron (GI), Cast Iron (CI) and uPVC Pipes ranging from 30mm – 100mm diameter pipes. The system consists of three (3) transmission lines that started at Lusuac Spring up to the two (2) Reservoirs at Casamata Hill. The two (2) transmission lines are parallel to each other and traverses the ricefields from Lusuac down to Peñarrubia and again passes the ricefields of Lubong and Bacsil-Angad while the third transmission line follows the route of the two transmission lines up to Poblacion, Peñarrubia then followed the Peñarrubia – Bangued road.

Water Meter Test Bench

This equipment is stored at MBWD office at Casamata Hill. Its use is to calibrate water meters. All new water meters are calibrated prior to its installation in order to assure the efficiency and accuracy of all water meters.
