On August 27, 2024, the Metro Bangued Water District (MBWD) organized a tree planting activity at Camata Hill, Zone 5, Bangued Abra where the agency’s warehouse and reservoir and other facilities are located. This initiative was part of the Gender and Development Program, aimed at promoting environmental sustainability while fostering gender equity and community involvement among employees.
The objectives of this activity were to enhance the ecological health of Camata Hill through tree planting, to involve all employees, emphasizing the role of women in environmental stewardship and to strengthen relationships and collaboration among staff through shared community service.
The tree planting activity commenced at 7:00 in the morning, all MBWD employees together with the Board of Directors participating, showcasing enthusiasm and commitment to the cause. The event began with an introduction to the importance of tree planting and its alignment with gender and development goals by the General Manager Kathleen Maria Balbin-Tawantawan, followed by short message from Dr. Gene Bede Barbero, BOD Chairman. Employees were organized into diverse teams to promote inclusivity, ensuring equal representation of genders in each group. Under the guidance of team leaders, participants collaboratively planted trees. The event concluded with discussions on the long-term benefits of the initiative and the importance of continued involvement in environmental activities.
Various trees were successfully planted, contributing to the ecological restoration of Camata Hill.
